2004.
Lorenzo Rizzardi è Presidente dello Yacht Club sfidante e Capo
AC 2004

+39 and Valencia
The +39 base
The +39 base - The project

The
+39 Valencia base is designed to be a laboratory of mental and physical
energy for the Brescian team; its designers' efforts were focussed on
creating a container rich in spatial qualities and in sensorial stimuli
for teamwork.
Athletes and managers must work with maximum commitment and this is
made possible by an environment rich in quality and one pleasant to
"stay in".
The structure has a high volume of around 35x35x13 m. high and is subdivided
into 7 large functional areas.
+39 and Sicily
The choice of Sicily as the operating
base for the + 39 challenge was born from social reasons rather than
sporting ones.

If on the one hand it is true that a sea had to
be chosen, plus a city with right up-to-date medical-sporting facilities,
on the other hand, it is also certain that Italy boasts many other locations
with these characteristics.
The choice of Sicily was determined by careful analysis of the territory,
its characteristics, the quality and potential of a population which
takes lessons from no one in terms of hospitality.
Today, months after making our decision, we confess to have been won
over not only by the warmth and passion of Sicilians, but also by their
professionalism, and by willingness to participate in a project that
only partly represents a sporting endeavour.
Today, we too can proudly feel to be a little Sicilian, contaminated
by the enthusiasm and will to endeavour of a territory unique in the
world. These are the considerations that make Sicily's sailing vocation
and its climatic characteristics similar to those of Valencia - venue
of the 2007 America's Cup - take the back seat.
It is not by chance therefore that the boat to compete at Valencia will
be built in Sicily.
After choosing Sicily and Palermo as our base camp, one of our main
objectives was to root our presence in the territory, to become part
of it. To breath the same air and to live looking through the same eyes
as Sicilians. This is why this summer we chose to associate our name
with the culturally most representative event representing Palermo,
both in its natural city context and that of the rest of Italy.
We created territorial marketing synergy with Palermo City Council,
by sponsoring "Kals'art", a cultural initiative combined with
the social recovery and valorisation of one of the symbol districts
of the city, that not by chance overlooks the sea. Also, to complete
the territorial penetration - and without ignoring the national and
international perspective distinguishing our project - we have sponsored
Palermo football club, back in "Serie A" (the First Division)
after more than thirty years. The first example of sports marketing
using another sporting discipline as a communication vehicle. Via football
and what Palermo represents in Sicilian and national football, we have
placed the + 39 class in the most visible dimension possible.
Furthermore, out of respect for sporting ethics, we wanted to make our
training boats - anchored at Marina di Villa Igiea, another symbolic
place of the city - available to the youngsters of the Palermo sailing
club schools, so as to transmit the spirit that drives our adventure
to them.
